We are encouraging all students to take on the challenge of dedicating at least 5 minutes a day to journaling in February. Today, students will be taking home a daily prompt calendar for this month as well as a mini journal to get them started.
Our hope is to help our students think of writing tasks in a positive way.
Please encourage your student to keep their pen moving constantly for 5 minutes- even if they are unsure of what to write in response to the prompt. Active engagement in brainstorming and on task doodling (rather than sitting and waiting for inspiration) will help students learn to actively tackle writing challenges. Also, allowing students to choose a fun writing tool or decorating their writing with stickers and drawings after completing their prompt can help keep the task fun! If you need additional pages- students can write on any available paper or visit the library for extra sheets!
Students should plan to bring their completed February journals to school on March 2nd to receive a Beanstack 'secret code'.

Today we were able to give every Seahawk student the opportunity to select 3 new books to keep for their home libraries! The students were able to select a new nonfiction, free choice, and fiction book from a variety of options.
The fiction book options pictured are between 150-200 pages long and can be easily chunked to create a 'Winter Break Family Read'. We hope you enjoy the opportunity to read and relax together this holiday season.

Mrs. Buffington would like to invite all Seahawk families to participate in our Fall Break Family Read. The novel 'The Village Beyond the Mist' will be available to all students in SORA, in e-book or audiobook format, until December 2nd.
Visit our family read website below to access a discussion guide, coloring pages, and a Seahawk community Padlet to discuss the novel (or share family photos reading together). Happy reading!
